Scheduled workshops

In this workshop, participants will combine art and technology in a unique way. You will learn how to make a machine that can either paint or play music by creating simple electrical circuits and programming software ("coding"). During both projects, Arduino microcontollers will be used with a simple programming environment in order to control the electrical circuits. As a result, students will create interactive art! This workshop is suitable for all students, even without any previous experience. The work is guided throughout the workshop according to the skill level of each student.

There are two different options for the art project from which you can choose the one you prefer; one with a painting robot and other with a drum machine. Both projects can be adapted to suit everyone starting from the basics of electronics and building up introducing more advanced programming.

In the first project, the task is to create a tool from simple components such as cardboard and wires that allows the robot to paint. When you are thought how make a program code, the robot will start painting in accordance with the code. The second project allows you to create and program a machine that can play different musical notes. Eventually, you are able to compose and play a melody with your own machine.

The advanced variation for each project enables you to interact with both the painting and the musical instrument as you learn how to use artificial intelligence as a part of their project. You will use natural language commands and the robot will respond accordingly. Despite which project or variation you have chosen, by the end of the workshop you have created Arduart, your own masterpiece!
