SciFest 2012 announces:
World-Wide Short Film Competition on Energy
What?
Joensuu Science Society organizes a short film competition on “Energy” as part of SciFest 2012. The competition aims to gather insights into the meaning of energy for people around the globe. These different expressions and interpretations can help us all gain a wider understanding of it.
There are two competition categories:
For whom?
This world-wide contest is open for all (but no professional film makers!).
How to participate?
- Create a short film of no more than 2 minutes' length.
- Note that the film content must be in English.
- Record the short film with a mobile phone. You may edit it on a computer.
- Submit the short film at CLOSED
- The submission period is February 9 ‒ April 17, 2012.
- Please use one of the following video formats: WebM files, .MPEG4, 3GPP, MOV, .AVI, .MPEGPS, .WMV, .FLV
- The following fields must be filled in while submitting a short film:
- When you submit your video through the SciFest Short Film Competition website, you agree that it may be published by Joensuu Science Society. The following information will be published along with the film:
- All the other collected information is for the use of the competition organizer only.
- All short films will be pre-checked by Joensuu Science Society before they are published on the SciFest Short Film Competition website. No inappropriate or insulting content will be published.
Selection of the winning films
The winning films will be selected at SciFest during 18–20 April, 2012. There are two competition categories:
Public voting
The online voting period will be open from April 18, 10:00pm to April 20, 11.59pm Finnish time (GMT +3:00).

Winners and prizes
The winners of the two categories will be announced at SciFest on Saturday, April 21, 2012. There are two prize categories:
1) Best films voted by the public
First prize: €100 voucher for Amazon, Photoshop Elements 10 and Adobe Premier Elements 10 and a certificate.
Second prize: €50 voucher for Amazon, Adobe Premier Elements 10 and a certificate.
2) Best films selected by the jury appointed by Joensuu Science Society
First prize: €100 voucher for Amazon, Photoshop Elements 10 and Adobe Premier Elements 10 and a certificate.
Second prize: €50 voucher for Amazon, Adobe Premier Elements 10 and a certificate.
Important dates to remember:
- Competition opens: February 7, 2012
- Film submission period: February 9 ‒ April 17, 2012
- Public voting period: April 18, 22.00hrs ‒ April 20, 11.59pm, 2012. (Finnish time, GMT +3:00)
- Announcement of the winners: April 21, 2012
