JOENSUU MAY 17-19, 2018
SciFest® is a yearly international festival which brings together thousands of schoolkids, high school students, and teachers to discover new experiences and learn about science, technology and the environment. SciFest takes place every year one weekend in spring in Joensuu, Finland. The festival is free and open to everyone.
The key to SciFest is first-hand experience. SciFest is all about bringing science to young people in fun and engaging ways. This is why the chief element of the festival is workshops, where kids can experiment and try things out for themselves. Alongside these activities the festival offers science cafés, public speakers and a national RoboCupJunior tournament, to name just a few.
SciFest is future oriented and truly international by its very nature. The number one aim of the festival is to provide innovative solutions for education and the workforce challenges of the future. The previous festivals have had themes ranging from space to biodiversity, chemistry, and water with visitors and contributors from over 50 countries.
SciFest 2017 is themed “On the Road”. At SciFest you can be on the road anywhere you like! On the road to the future, to space, to digitalisation... - as a workshop organizer you will decide the destination. The theme is also related to Unesco's year of sustainable tourism and development.
This year we also celebrate Finland's 100 years of independence. SciFest is one of the official Finland 100 -events. The patron of SciFest 2017 is the President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö. The theme of the celebration year is Together - so let's make SciFest the most communal event of the year!
However, SciFest does not concentrate only on these themes. All other innovative activities that are related to science, technology and environment are welcomed.
The expected number of visitors this year is no less than 15 000.
Come join the fun!
